Stephen Satterfield Lives High on the Hog
So much of what we do at Whetstone is to explore the tension between the joy in a meal, and the suffering and oppression that have molded foodways around the world. That vision comes straight from cofounder Stephen Satterfield, who wanted to create food media free from the whitewashed narrative of “food brings people together,” and give people around the world to tell their own stories.
As the host of High on the Hog, a Netflix documentary series that premieres May 26, Satterfied does all of the above. The show is based on Dr. Jessica B. Harris’s book of the same name and has Satterfield starting in Benin and making his way to the U.S. to explore how Black food is American food.
With the show, Satterfield himself has become the subject of many stories. We’ll be collecting them here, so that you can get all of your High on the Hog news in one place.
